The claimed benefits of royal jelly include improved energy, enhanced immune function, and various anti-aging properties, most of which have limited clinical support but some preliminary biological plausibility.
Lee’s interest in royal jelly came from his reading of both Western nutritional literature and traditional Chinese medicine texts, which had documented bee products as tonics for centuries. Refined sugars and empty calories were largely absent from his diet, not because he was following a named dietary system but because he’d assessed their contribution to training quality as negative. Alcohol was essentially absent too: he wasn’t a drinker, which is simply documented fact rather than a moral position, and his training intensity would have made serious alcohol consumption practically incompatible anyway.

The Tea Ritual and Its Function
Lee drank tea consistently throughout the day, a habit from his Hong Kong upbringing that he maintained in America. Chinese tea, primarily green and oolong varieties, was his standard. The caffeine content provided a mild stimulant effect without the blood sugar spike and crash associated with coffee and sugary drinks. This combination requires both a sufficient protein intake to preserve and build muscle tissue and a caloric environment that prevents fat accumulation while fueling high-intensity daily training. His nutritional approach achieved this without the precise tracking tools that modern athletes use, suggesting that the underlying principles were sound even if the specific protocols weren’t optimal by current standards.
